Tomichan Mulakuppadam

Nothing in Tomichan Mulakuppadam's background tied him to the film industry before he moved into production. A non-resident Indian businessman whose given name is Thomas Antony, he has said he did it out of a love for cinema. He produces and distributes Malayalam films through his company, Mulakuppadam Films. His first production, Flash (2007), with Mohanlal and Parvathy, did not do well at the box office. The big-budget action film Pokkiri Raja (2010), directed by Vysakh and starring Mammootty, was a commercial success. Wider recognition came with Pulimurugan (2016), a high-budget Mohanlal action drama made for about Rs 25 crore, a sum the industry viewed as a gamble for a regional market of that size. It became the highest-grossing title in Malayalam cinema at the time and the first to enter both the Rs 100 crore and Rs 150 crore clubs, crossing Rs 100 crore within 30 days in theatres. Ramaleela, a political thriller starring Dileep, followed in September 2017. Pulimurugan completed ten years in 2026.
