Balan Movie Release: Manjummel Boys Director Chidambaram Announces Release Date

· 1 min read · No comments

Director Chidambaram, following the success of Manjummel Boys, has set the release of his next film, Balan, for June 19, 2026. The project has drawn attention for bringing together two of the industry’s successful young talents: Chidambaram directs, while Aavesham writer-director Jithu Madhavan writes the screenplay.

Produced by KVN Productions and Thespian Films, Balan features a cast made up entirely of fresh faces, backed by an experienced technical crew. Sushin Shyam returns as composer, Shyju Khalid handles the cinematography and Vivek Harshan edits — a combination that points to high production values.

A Cannes premiere first

Before its theatrical release, Balan is set for a world premiere in the market screening section at the Cannes Film Festival on May 14, 2026 — a sign of the growing international interest in Malayalam cinema. Unconfirmed reports also suggest a cameo by Tovino Thomas.

The pairing of Chidambaram and Jithu Madhavan — whose past work includes Jan.E.Man and Romancham — has raised expectations, particularly among younger audiences. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the casting of newcomers reflects Chidambaram’s interest in fresh, authentic performances. Promotion is expected to pick up with trailers and songs as the June 19 date nears.
