Ram Charan’s sports drama Peddi has wrapped up a strong opening week, taking an estimated ₹220 crore at the Indian box office in its first seven days. Directed by Buchi Babu Sana, the film made the most of heavy pre-release buzz and a wide, multi-format release, and the bulk of that total came from the Telugu states.
Joint fourth-best first week in the Telugu states
In Andhra Pradesh and Telangana combined, Peddi grossed an estimated ₹171.50 crore, which ties it with Prabhas’s Salaar for the joint fourth-highest first week ever in the territory. On the all-time list it now sits behind only three films: S.S. Rajamouli’s RRR (₹245.50 crore), Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2: The Rule (₹218 crore) and Kalki 2898 AD (₹190 crore).
Coastal Andhra was the strongest region. There the film took ₹78.25 crore — the fourth-highest first week the area has seen, and only about ₹2 crore short of Pushpa 2 for second place. It finished ahead of recent releases such as Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu, which had opened to ₹73 crore earlier in the year.
Elsewhere the numbers held up well too. In the Nizam region the film landed fifth on the all-time chart with ₹68.75 crore, behind Prabhas titles like Salaar, while in Ceded it took ₹24.50 crore, running close to Baahubali 2: The Conclusion and just short of the third spot held by Jr. NTR’s Devara.
A backlash, and a quick edit
Made on a reported ₹350 crore budget by producer Venkata Satish Kilaru under Vriddhi Cinemas and presented by Mythri Movie Makers, Peddi follows a young grassroots athlete rising through tough sporting contests. After the preview shows on June 3, 2026, parts of the audience criticised the director over how the female lead, played by Janhvi Kapoor, was filmed.
Sana and the editing team responded by cutting the shots in question from the theatrical print. Co-star Jagapathi Babu also stepped in, asking people to stop targeting Kapoor and noting that actors follow the director’s brief. With music by A.R. Rahman and cinematography by R. Rathnavelu, the film has since crossed ₹345 crore worldwide heading into its second weekend.
