Jeethu Joseph’s Drishyam 3 is heading into the final stretch of its theatrical run, and trade trackers now expect the Mohanlal thriller to close in Kerala at around ₹90 crore. According to figures compiled on June 14, 2026, that would make it the fourth highest-grossing film in the state’s history — a strong result, though just short of the ₹100-crore mark that only three Malayalam films have crossed.
The film brought Mohanlal back as Georgekutty, the family man who keeps outwitting the law to protect his own. It opened to huge numbers and held well through its first fortnight, but ticket sales have cooled now that it is in its fourth week and facing fresh competition, chiefly Ram Charan’s sports drama Peddi, which has taken over a large share of single-screen shows, along with incoming Hollywood titles.
Even with the late dip, the worldwide picture is comfortable for producers Aashirvad Cinemas: the film has crossed ₹238 crore globally, placing it among the highest-grossing Malayalam releases of all time.
Kerala’s three ₹100-crore films
The trio still sitting above Drishyam 3 in the state remains untouched. At the top is Vaazha 2: Biopic of a Billion Bros, directed by Savin S.A. from a screenplay by Vipin Das, which rode strong word of mouth among younger audiences to ₹129.56 crore in Kerala earlier this year.
Next is Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra, the Wayfarer Films production directed by Dominic Arun and led by Kalyani Priyadarshan and Naslen. It earned ₹121.90 crore in the state and became the first Malayalam film to cross ₹300 crore worldwide. Third is Tharun Moorthy’s family drama Thudarum, starring Mohanlal and Shobana, which took ₹118.90 crore in Kerala during its 2025 run.
A Hindi remake already in the works
Part of what kept Drishyam 3 in theatres was its tone. Rather than leaning on action, Joseph stayed with the slower, more anxious territory the series is known for — guilt, exhaustion and the strain that living under suspicion puts on a family. That approach drew repeat viewings and plenty of online discussion through the early weeks.
It has also drawn remake interest. Joseph recently said the Hindi version is in active development and that the writing team has been consulting him directly, with a few changes planned for the climax to fit the expectations around a mainstream Bollywood lead. With the Malayalam version expected to move to streaming over the coming weeks, the ₹90-crore finish caps another solid chapter in the Georgekutty story.
