Ranjan Pramod

Screenwriter · Director

Small, everyday details, rather than heroics or melodrama, build the characters in Ranjan Pramod's scripts, and his stories stay grounded in family relationships. The Malayalam screenwriter and director, whose name is T. P. Pramod, started as a writer on Lal Jose's Randam Bhavam (2001). A run of successful scripts came quickly after: Meesa Madhavan (2002), Manassinakkare (2003), Achuvinte Amma (2005) and Naran (2005). He has directed three features. Photographer came out in 2006 and Rose Guitarinal in 2013. Rakshadhikari Baiju Oppu (2017), a modestly budgeted portrait of everyday village life, marked a return to form and won him the Kerala State Film Award for Best Film with Popular Appeal and Aesthetic Value. After a decade's gap he came back to screenwriting with Ennum Eppozhum, starring Mohanlal and Manju Warrier. Night Shows, his upcoming film as director, is produced by Kavya Film Company. It is his first collaboration with Soubin Shahir, who leads a cast made up largely of newcomers, and its teaser has been released.
