Sushin Shyam

A musician father who taught him the keyboard gave Sushin Shyam an early start: he was performing on stage at the age of three. Born in 1992 in Thalassery, Kannur district, he went to school there and later moved to Chennai, spending two years working with music director Deepak Dev. He is a founding member of the folk metal band The Down Troddence, and composes, plays and sings, mainly for Malayalam cinema. As a singer he voiced "Thaazhvaram" in Neelakasham Pachakadal Chuvanna Bhoomi. Lord Livingstone 7000 Kandi (2015) was his first background score, followed by Kismath (2016), for which he also made the song "Kissa Pathiyil". Varathan (2018), Kumbalangi Nights (2019), Minnal Murali (2021) and Bheeshma Parvam (2022) carry his scores, as do Romancham and Kannur Squad (both 2023) and Manjummel Boys and Aavesham (both 2024). Kumbalangi Nights and Bougainvillea each won him the Kerala State Film Award for Best Music Director. On 4 July 2025 he released Ray, a music video that marked his start as an independent artist. He has made short or guest appearances in films such as Thattathin Marayathu, Honey Bee, Guppy and Mayaanadhi. His first Tamil film is Scene (2026), starring Suriya, and its song "Aeroplane" has him working in the Tamil gaana style.
