Malayalam veteran Indrans has spoken warmly about working with Suriya on the Tamil thriller Karuppu. At a promotional event, he praised the star’s humility, saying Suriya’s down-to-earth manner on set is such that “his humility makes us feel arrogant” by comparison.
Suriya’s praise for Indrans
Suriya returned the compliment with a personal anecdote, comparing Indrans’s quiet nature to the shyness his own children showed when they met Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni. He described Indrans as calm and unassuming on set, marvelling that despite his standing in cinema he asks for none of the usual comforts — no caravan, no umbrella, no special food — and is happy to sit anywhere.
That changes, Suriya said, the moment the camera rolls. “When he comes for a scene, nobody can beat him,” he remarked, calling the veteran a “wonder” who surprises the crew take after take and holds his performance no matter how many are needed.
Indrans’s response
Indrans, known for his simple lifestyle, said he was taken aback by the praise from a star of Suriya’s stature. “I heard what he said about me on stage; what else can I say but that it is a wonder,” he said. Their pairing is one of the talking points around Karuppu as the film works through its release.
