Kattalan releases on May 28 — a week away — and the conversation around it has taken an unexpected turn. Unconfirmed speculation circulating on social media suggests that Tamil director Lokesh Kanagaraj may appear in a guest role in the film. No source has been named, nothing has been confirmed by the production or by Lokesh Kanagaraj’s team, and it remains firmly in the realm of fan conjecture at press time. But given what Kattalan is and who is involved, the speculation is not without logic.
The film is part of the Marco universe — directed by newcomer Paul George and produced by Shareef Muhammed under Cubes Entertainments, the same banner behind Marco. Lokesh Kanagaraj runs his own cinematic universe in Tamil cinema, the LCU, and has shown a consistent interest in cross-industry connections. A brief appearance in a Marco-universe Malayalam film would be on-brand. Fans are also hoping it would mark his Malayalam screen debut, which adds another layer to why the rumour has caught.
What Kattalan Actually Is
Strip away the speculation and Kattalan is already a well-stocked production. Antony Varghese leads a cast that includes Siddique, Jagadish, Kabir Duhan Singh, Sunil, Dushara Vijayan, Anson Paul, and Hanan Shah. Ravi Basrur handles the background score — his KGF work giving that credit immediate weight — while B. Ajaneesh Loknath composes the songs. Cinematography is by Renadive, editing by Shameer Muhammed.
Principal photography began in Thailand in September 2025, with additional schedules shot across Vagamon, Kollam, Colombo, Dhanushkodi, Tirunelveli, and Rameswaram. The May 28 release will hit standard, IMAX, and EPIQ formats — a wide format rollout that signals genuine commercial ambition from Cubes Entertainments.
Whether Lokesh Kanagaraj is in it or not, Kattalan arrives with enough on its own terms to warrant attention. The guest role question will answer itself in eight days.
