Azhakiya Ravanan (1996)

Romance, Comedy, Drama · Malayalam

Azhakiya Ravanan is a Malayalam romantic comedy-drama directed by Kamal and written by Sreenivasan, released in February 1996. Shankar Das, a wealthy entrepreneur based in Mumbai, comes back to his native village in Alappuzha without revealing who he is. He eventually confides in his childhood friend Ambujakshan and admits that he still longs for Anuradha, the daughter of the feudal landlord Chathothu Panicker. Ambujakshan talks him into funding a film, which is set up under a director named Sharath, who also happens to be the man Anuradha loves. Mammootty, Bhanupriya, Innocent Vareed Thekkethala, Biju Menon, Rajan P. Dev, Cochin Haneefa, Kavya Madhavan and Sreenivasan make up the cast. The soundtrack marked composer Vidyasagar's debut in Malayalam cinema and earned him the Kerala State Film Award for Best Music Director. The 2015 film Chirakodinja Kinavukal is a spin-off.
