Alan Bin Siraj, the social-media creator turned actor, has lined up his second film. Fresh off his acting debut, the young performer is teaming with comedian Joemon Jyothir for a project titled Poocha Sir, announced this week and pitched as a high-energy comedy in the youthful style that has been driving recent Malayalam hits.
The quick follow-up reflects how fast Alan has risen. He first built an audience through observational reels on Instagram before filmmaker Vipin Das brought him to the screen in Vaazha 2: Biopic of a Billion Bros, the sequel to the 2024 comedy Vaazha. Directed by Savin S.A., the film gave Alan a likeable, scene-stealing role and made him one of the season’s promising new faces.
Familiar collaborators
The plot and genre details for Poocha Sir are still under wraps, but the crew points to a comedy in good hands. The film marks the feature directorial debut of Rejiwan Abdul Basheer, who worked as chief associate director on the Naslen film 18+ and on Vaazha 2 under Savin S.A. and Vipin Das. That existing working relationship with Alan should make for a comfortable set.
Joemon Jyothir adds an established comic presence. He moved from YouTube sketches into films and broke through with roles in hits like Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil. He also has a connection to the Vaazha world, having played the character Musa (Muhammad Al Bin Salim Ibrahim) in both films. Trade watchers see the pairing of his eccentric energy with Alan’s more laid-back timing as a smart bit of casting.
Production plans
The screenplay is by an emerging writer credited as Adj, and is said to lean on situational absurdity that suits the film’s quirky, cat-themed title. The project is being produced by MRK Jhayaram, who is also setting up distribution across South India.
The film fits a broader trend in Malayalam cinema, where digital-native performers with built-in followings among younger audiences are increasingly moving into mainstream roles. Principal photography is set to begin in semi-urban parts of central Kerala in late summer, with casting for the supporting ensemble still being finalised ahead of the first teaser.
