Ajay Devgn

Stunt choreographer and action director Veeru Devgan was his father, and producer Veena Devgan is his mother, so Ajay Devgn, born Vishal Virender Devgan in New Delhi, grew up in a film family. He studied at Silver Beach High School in Juhu and at Mithibai College, and started with the action romance Phool Aur Kaante (1991). He acts, directs and produces, mostly in Hindi, and has more than 100 films to his name. The early years ran on action, in Jigar, Dilwale and Diljale, and on romance, in Ishq and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. Zakhm (1998) won him the National Film Award for Best Actor, and The Legend of Bhagat Singh (2002) and later Tanhaji (2020) won it for him again. Company, Gangaajal and Omkara drew praise, and from 2010 a long commercial run took in Golmaal 3, Singham, Drishyam, Raid and Shaitaan. He received the Padma Shri in 2016. He runs Ajay Devgn FFilms, set up in 1999, and works often with Rohit Shetty. His latest release, Drishyam: The Conclusion (2026), has him as Vijay Salgaonkar. It is a Hindi original rather than a remake, it is close to ₹500 crore at the box office, and its producer has said there will be no fourth Hindi instalment.
