No Malayalam film has grossed more than Bethlehem Kudumba Unit (2026), the Nivin Pauly and Mamitha Baiju film directed by Girish A. D. It opened to strong reviews, and he has said he lost a year to a planned Premalu sequel before turning to it. A Malayalam filmmaker who directs, writes, acts and produces, he has made features that are largely romantic comedies. He is from Chalakudy in Thrissur district and studied engineering at MET's School of Engineering in Mala. Short films came first: Yashpal, Vishuddha Ambrose and Mookutthi, with Vishuddha Ambrose winning him the best director prize at the Adoor short film festival in 2017. That year he also appeared briefly in Bilahari K Raj's independent film Porattam, and in 2018 he earned his first feature writing credit on Allu Ramendran, also directed by Bilahari. His directing debut, Thanneer Mathan Dinangal (2019), was a coming-of-age romantic comedy co-written with Dinoy Poulose and featuring Vineeth Sreenivasan, Mathew Thomas and Anaswara Rajan. Super Sharanya (2022) drew mixed reviews but did well commercially. Two of his films came out in 2024: I Am Kathalan, and Premalu, which he wrote and directed and which ranked among the year's top Malayalam earners.
