Nayanthara
Director Sathyan Anthikkad spotted Diana Mariam Kurian's modelling work while she was still in college and cast her in Manassinakkare (2003), her first film. As Nayanthara, often billed as Lady Superstar, she now acts across Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam cinema, with Kannada and Hindi credits as well, and produces through her own house, Rowdy Pictures. She was born in Bangalore into a family from Thiruvalla, Kerala, and studied English literature at Mar Thoma College, Tiruvalla. Ayya (2005) took her into Tamil cinema, Lakshmi (2006) into Telugu and Super (2010) into Kannada. Playing Sita in Sri Rama Rajyam (2011) won her the Nandi Award and the Filmfare Award for Best Actress – Telugu. Filmfare's Best Actress – Tamil came for Raja Rani, Naanum Rowdy Dhaan and Aramm, along with the Malayalam award for Puthiya Niyamam (2016). Many of her films are built around a female lead, among them Maya, Dora, Aramm, Imaikkaa Nodigal and Mookuthi Amman (2020); Chandramukhi, Ghajini, Billa and Viswasam were commercial successes. Jawan (2023), her Hindi debut, is her highest-grossing film. In Sundar C's Mookuthi Amman 2 she returns as the goddess and also plays a shy police officer; it is set for a Diwali release on 6 November, with Bhavana Release taking it to Kerala. She also appears in Yash's Toxic.
