Soori

One scene made his name. In Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu (2009), his character eats 50 parottas, and the moment earned him the nickname Parotta Soori. Born Ramalakshmanan Muthuchamy in Madurai on 27 August 1977, the Tamil actor moved to Chennai in 1996 hoping to break into films and worked as a cleaner while he waited for a chance. From 1998 he played uncredited bit parts, often in comedy scenes, in films such as Winner (2003) and Deepavali. For about a decade after that turning point he worked mainly as a comedian and sidekick, in Poraali, Sundarapandian, Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam, Jilla, Rajini Murugan and Namma Veettu Pillai, among others. Then Vetrimaaran cast him as the lead of the period crime thriller Viduthalai Part 1 (2023), and critics and viewers praised the performance. Lead roles in Garudan, Kottukkaali and Yezhu Kadal Yezhu Malai, all from 2024, came after; Kottukkaali screened at the Berlin International Film Festival and Yezhu Kadal Yezhu Malai at the International Film Festival Rotterdam. He played Muthukaali in Mandaadi (2026). Soori 7, already launched, pairs him with Rajisha Vijayan and is directed by Ravikumar for Mythri Movie Makers in Tamil and Telugu.
