Anna Ben's Tamil path
For Malayalam viewers, the film is the next step in Anna's Tamil work after Kottukkaali, in which she appeared alongside Soori. This time the setting is a romantic comedy. She is reported to play Kanagavalli, opposite Kishore Rajkumar.
Her character was introduced on August 7, Anna's birthday, with a Kanagavalli poster. That followed the film's first look, which Lokesh Kanagaraj launched on February 14, 2026.
A director in the lead
Kishore is reported to have written and directed the film, and it marks his debut as a lead actor. He earlier directed Naai Sekar (2022), which starred Sathish. As an actor, he played Ashok in Kaithi and had smaller roles in Comali and Imaikkaa Nodigal.
He has said the team wrapped the shoot in just 29 days. He has also pointed out that many films put heavier people in comic roles, while this one makes a man with a heavier build the hero. It is a part he is happy he got to play "myself", as he put it.
Who else is on board
Coimbatore Mappillaii is reported to be the first production from Noise and Grains, produced by Karthik Srinivas and Mahaveer Ashok.
Praveen Balu is reported to be the cinematographer and co-writer, with Ram Pandian editing. Brindha Master handles choreography, Sri Sasikumar K is the art director and Kiruthikha Sekar designs the costumes. A music composer has not been announced yet.
The supporting cast is reported to include K S Ravikumar, Ponvannan, Viji Chandrasekhar, Sithappu Saravanan, Vinodhini Vaidhyanathan, Lollu Sabha Manohar, CWC Monisha Blessy, WhatsApp Mani and Nakkalites Ranjith.
A familiar title
The name will ring a bell for Tamil audiences. It echoes Coimbatore Mappillai, the 1996 film starring Vijay and directed by C Ranganathan. The new film adds an extra letter to the spelling.
The Christmas window
The December 24 date puts the film in the Christmas season, when Malayalam cinema has its own releases lined up. Joju George's Paripadi is among them, with a Christmas release planned, though its exact date has not been announced. For Anna's Malayali fans, that sets up a holiday week with a Tamil option alongside the Malayalam slate.
