Chiyaan Vikram is back on set. After a break of more than a year from filming, the National Award-winning actor reportedly began principal photography for his next film, Chiyaan 63, on Sunday, June 7, 2026. The project reunites him with action director Anand Shankar a decade after their sci-fi thriller Iru Mugan. The film went on floors with a small introductory schedule, and an official photo from the production house is expected soon.
A chef who isn’t quite what he seems
Vikram was last seen in Veera Dheera Sooran: Part 2, which did well in March 2025, after which he stepped back for about fourteen months to plan his next move. Interest in Chiyaan 63 picked up last month with a stylised “First Flame” promo that introduced him as a mild-mannered commercial chef targeted by an international syndicate — before a voiceover revealed the twist that the chef is in fact a gangster operating under deep cover.
The film also marks the Tamil acting debut of actor-producer Riya Shibu, who plays the female lead. Shibu is already part of Vikram’s circle, having produced Veera Dheera Sooran: Part 2 under her banner HR Pictures, and earned praise for her role in Nivin Pauly’s Sarvam Maya.
The team behind it
Veteran producer TG Thyagarajan is mounting the film on a large budget under Sathya Jyothi Films, with Sendhil Thyagarajan and Arjun Thyagarajan handling production. Santhosh Narayanan composes the music — his first film with Vikram since Karthik Subbaraj’s Mahaan in 2022 — while RD Rajasekar ISC is the cinematographer, Raymond Derrick Crasta the editor, and Rajeevan and Surya Rajeevan handle the art direction.
There are also reports that veterans MS Bhaskar and Urvashi have joined the cast. If confirmed, it would reunite Bhaskar and Vikram, who shared the screen in Deiva Thirumagal (2011) and Thaandavam (2012). The dialogues are written by Shan Karuppusamy, and the unit is preparing for a long shoot across various locations through the monsoon months.
