Drishyam 3 Movie Release: Mohanlal Reflects on Georgekutty’s 13-Year Struggle

Ahead of the release of Drishyam 3, Mohanlal spoke about the toll the years have taken on his character, Georgekutty. “Georgekutty is not a criminal; he is a common man trying to save his family,” the actor said at a press meet, describing a man who has effectively been living in “hell” since the events of the first film.

Mohanlal said the constant fear of being caught has changed Georgekutty over time, making him more reflective. With his children now grown and starting to ask difficult questions, the third film looks at how he handles those pressures as he searches for an end to his long evasion of the law.

An emotional drama at its core

Director Jeethu Joseph said he sees the series less as a thriller and more as an emotional battle between two families. Where the first film centred on a reflex action and the second on a planned defence, he said, the third digs into Georgekutty’s inner turmoil. Joseph also admitted the character has grown beyond his own plans: “He does things I never even dreamed of,” he said of writing this installment.

New faces and returning rivals

Releasing on May 21 — which coincides with Mohanlal’s 66th birthday — the film adds new characters and brings back familiar ones. Veena Nandakumar joins as an investigative journalist whose probe into Georgekutty becomes a key thread. Asha Sharath returns as Geetha Prabhakar, still carrying a mother’s grief, and Meena reprises Rani, who lives under the same shadow of fear.

Joseph also confirmed the return of Sahadevan, played by Kalabhavan Shajon — but having lost his job in the previous film, he is no longer in the police. “A Sahadevan without a uniform is on a different path now,” the director teased, hinting at a new layer to the story.
