The trailer for Drishyam 3 is out, and it sets a darker tone for the franchise. Picking up about four and a half years after the last film, it offers a glimpse of Georgekutty’s strained state of mind, with one line from Mohanlal — “I’ve started thinking of myself as a criminal!” — quickly going viral.
Where the earlier films centred on Georgekutty’s cleverness, the trailer suggests his secrets are now taking a toll, with the pressure on his family building as the past resurfaces.
Release and certification
Directed again by Jeethu Joseph, the film is set for a worldwide release on May 21, 2026 — a date that coincides with Mohanlal’s 66th birthday. The Central Board of Film Certification has cleared it with a U/A 13+ certificate, and advance bookings have been strong, particularly in the United States.
The final move
The trailer hints that a case “supposed to be closed” never really ends for either the police or Georgekutty, who admits he is finally “scared” — suggesting he may be up against someone as clever as he is. The returning cast includes Meena, Ansiba Hassan and Esther Anil, adding emotional weight to what is billed as the conclusion of a story that began more than a decade ago, under the tagline “The Past Never Stays Silent.”
