Mohanlal had a characteristically disarming answer when asked about his children’s relationship with cinema during a Reporter Films interview tied to Drishyam 3 promotions. His daughter Vismaya Mohanlal is currently shooting Thudakkam, her first film. His son Pranav — known to fans as Appu — is a different story altogether.
“Appu is someone who likes to act in very few films. He is someone who walks around thinking about how to avoid acting in films,” Mohanlal said, with the kind of wry affection that lands better than any formal praise.

On Vismaya’s debut, he was clear about where parental responsibility ends: “When a daughter comes into cinema, there is no father-daughter equation anymore. We give them the freedom to live as they wish. She wanted to act, she came to cinema. Now she is the one who has to prove her ability. Saying she is my daughter serves no purpose.”
The quote has been circulating on social media since the interview aired — partly for what it says about Pranav’s reluctant relationship with stardom, and partly because it captures something genuine about how Mohanlal discusses his family.
Drishyam 3 Crosses ₹200 Crore in 7 Days
The interview backdrop is worth noting. Drishyam 3 crossed ₹200 crore worldwide in seven days of release, per Reporter Network — joining Empuraan and Thudarum as Mohanlal films to reach that mark. The film crossed ₹100 crore in 58 hours. It is still running in 500 theatres in Kerala alone as it enters its second week, having released on 465 Kerala screens and 3,000 worldwide.
Applause at the climax during screenings has been consistently reported. Jeethu Joseph’s third Georgekutty chapter is, by any commercial measure, the franchise’s biggest theatrical moment yet.
