The sequel to the sleeper hit Vaazha has carried its run onto streaming, where Vaazha 2 has been trending and drawing praise from audiences and peers. Among them was actor Kalidas Jayaram, who shared a heartfelt note on Instagram. He said he regretted missing the film in theatres but that it “touched his soul” when he watched it at home.
Kalidas pointed to several moments that stayed with him, starting with an early scene in which young Hashir notices his mother overfeeding the family’s pet fish — small, true-to-life touches that, he felt, set up the film well. It was the second half, though, that moved him most.
Restrained love, realistically drawn
One scene involving Alan and his father struck him in particular: Alan goes to hug his father, only to be met with, “It’s time for the flight.” Kalidas said it captured the unspoken, restrained affection common in many Malayali homes, and that its realism was painful but authentic. He also drew a parallel between the film’s sibling bond and his own relationship with his sister, Malavika, citing a line — “Who else but me?” — and another about how easily a bad reputation is earned and how hard it is to shed. For him, the film plays almost like a biography for siblings.
Praise for the team
Kalidas was generous about the ensemble, naming Hashir, Alan, Vinayak, Devaraj, Ajin, Bijukuttan and Vijay Babu, with a special mention for Alphonse Puthren’s honesty in his role. He congratulated director Savin S.A. for telling such a grounded story, and praised the film’s “poetic” ending, which comes full circle with its goldfish imagery.
