The Great Indian Kitchen (2021)

The Great Indian Kitchen is a Malayalam drama directed by Jeo Baby. A dancer who grew up in Manama, Bahrain, marries a teacher through an arranged match and moves into his traditional, patriarchal household. She soon finds that the cooking, cleaning and running of the home fall entirely to her, while the men of the house are served and rest. When her mother-in-law leaves to look after a pregnant daughter, the work only grows, and the film stays close to the routine that shapes her days. Suraj Venjaramoodu, Nimisha Sajayan and Sidhartha Siva lead the cast. The film was shot almost entirely inside a single house in Calicut, with filming starting in July 2020, and carries the Mankind Cinemas, Symmetry Cinemas and Cinema Cooks banners. It premiered directly on Neestream in January 2021. It was later remade in Tamil in 2023 by R. Kannan and in Hindi as Mrs. (2025).
