Malayali faces in a Tamil film
Four Malayali actors are in the cast. Narain, Anjali Nair and Swasika are tagged in the official post, and reports suggest Hareesh Peradi is also part of it.
Sasikumar and Trident again
Production No. 22 is Sasikumar's third film with Trident Arts, after Vetrivel (2016) and Ayothi (2023).
Kannada director Hari Santhosh, known for Alemari, Victory 2 and By Two Love, makes his Tamil debut as writer and director. He also made the Telugu-Tamil film College Kumar.
The Malayali cast
Narain is best known to Malayalam audiences for Achuvinte Amma (2005) and Classmates (2006), and to Tamil audiences for Mysskin's Anjathe (2008). He played Inspector Bejoy in Lokesh Kanagaraj's Kaithi (2019) and Vikram (2022). Swasika works in Tamil and Malayalam films. She made her debut in the Tamil film Vaigai (2009) and played Yasodhai in the Tamil sports drama Lubber Pandhu (2024).
Nandita Swetha, also in the cast, made her Tamil breakthrough with Attakathi (2012).
Sasikumar's recent run
Sasikumar made his name as the writer-director of Subramaniapuram (2008), and went on to become a lead actor with films like Naadodigal (2009). His recent work has been his strongest in years. Ayothi, his last film with Trident Arts, was praised for its humane story, and Tourist Family (2025) became one of the surprise hits of the year in Tamil.
That run explains why producers are backing him again. A Trident Arts film with a strong Malayali cast also gives the project an easy route into Kerala theatres. The title, the story and the release date have not been announced yet.
Ghibran, who is composing the music, made his debut with Vaagai Sooda Vaa (2011) and has since scored films such as Papanasam (2015), Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru (2017) and Ratsasan (2018).
Hari Santhosh's Kannada films include Alemari and Victory 2, and Production No. 22 will be his first Tamil film as writer and director.
