Prince Joy, the director of Titans, has asked audiences to watch the Jayasurya and Vinayakan film in theatres before it leaves the big screens. He made the appeal in a Facebook post on October 27, five days after the film's release.
The director wrote, "OTT പ്ലാറ്റ്ഫോമിനല്ല.. ആൾക്കൂട്ടത്തിന് വേണ്ടി ചെയ്ത സിനിമയാണ് ടൈറ്റൻസ്" (Titans was made for the crowd, not for an OTT platform).
What Prince Joy said
He wrote that he was firmly convinced he had not made a bad film. However, he added that the team was not calling Titans a Malayalam cult classic either.
Speaking about the script, the director explained that it sits between fantasy and reality, and that the team insisted on keeping its backdrop grounded. He also said that he took every review of the film as a lesson for himself.
The note was addressed to specific groups of viewers. Prince Joy called out those who have not watched the film yet, those planning to go next weekend, fans of fantasy films, people who enjoy absurd humour and audiences who welcome experimental cinema. He asked them to catch the film in a theatre if they can.
Our Titans review called it an uneven fantasy caper lifted by Vinayakan.
A crowded week
Titans opened on Thursday, October 22, in a crowded week for Malayalam cinema. Orijinal and Crime 302 followed on October 23, and Udumbanchola Vision also released the same week, as covered in our release week story.
The Malayalam films also had to share screens with Rajinikanth's Jailer 2, which released on October 15. Titans arrived on the first day of the Tamil film's second week, and Jailer 2 is still running in its second week.
