Fans expecting an early confrontation between Rama and Ravana in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana may have to wait. At a recent promotional event, Kannada star Yash revealed that the two characters — played by Ranbir Kapoor and himself — will not share the screen in the first installment, a consequence of the story being split into two parts.
Yash said the first film is about establishing the two separate worlds. “In the first part, Ravana has his own kingdom, and Rama has his,” he explained, with the narrative prioritising character and world-building over an immediate clash. The big face-off is being saved for the second chapter.
Ranbir Kapoor’s double role
Ranbir Kapoor, meanwhile, confirmed that he will play a double role — both Rama and Parshurama, each an avatar of Vishnu — which adds an extra layer to the story. He described the project as India’s answer to Lord of the Rings. Conceived as a roughly six-hour epic across two films, the production has spent years on its visual effects and carries a reported budget of around ₹4,000 crore, with the first part focusing on Rama as a son, brother and husband.
Cast and release
The film features a large cast, with Sai Pallavi as Sita, Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravie Dubey as Lakshmana. Reactions to the initial teaser were mixed, but interest in the cast has kept the buzz going. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana is set for release on November 8, 2026, around Diwali.
