Ekta Kapoor Hails Priyadarshan on Bhooth Bangla: “His Stance on Producer Safety Shocked Me”

The success of Bhooth Bangla has brought praise from producer Ekta Kapoor for veteran director Priyadarshan. As the horror-comedy continued its strong run, Kapoor shared a note on Instagram crediting him not just for delivering a hit, but for an approach to a producer’s financial security that she found unusual.

Kapoor said working with the director — who is nearing his 100th film — was an eye-opening experience, and that despite expectations of clashes between two strong personalities, the collaboration was one of the smoothest of her career, built on mutual respect.

A rare standard

She singled out one moment that stayed with her. Before the project began, Priyadarshan’s first concern was whether the film would make money for the studio. “Ekta, are you making a profit from this movie? I don’t work on films where my producer doesn’t make money,” he reportedly asked. Kapoor noted how rare that is in an industry where directors often focus solely on the creative side, adding, “I knew my company’s money and the film were in safe hands.”

A ₹100-crore run

The film, which reunites Akshay Kumar with Priyadarshan, has crossed ₹100 crore worldwide. Alongside Kumar, it features Wamiqa Gabbi, Tabu, Paresh Rawal and Rajpal Yadav, with a script by Akash Kaushik and Abhilash Nair that revives the classic horror-comedy style. Kapoor said any creative differences during the shoot were settled with respect — and the result has the industry hoping for more such collaborations.
