Karuppu Trailer: Suriya Unleashes Godly Power in RJ Balaji’s Action-Fantasy Drama

The makers of Karuppu have released the trailer for the Suriya–RJ Balaji collaboration, offering a look at a film that blends legal drama with supernatural action. Suriya is shown in a powerful, larger-than-life avatar, with Trisha Krishnan playing an advocate.

The trailer opens with hundreds of lawyers protesting, setting a tense tone, before introducing Trisha’s character trying to negotiate with “Baby” Kannan, played by RJ Balaji, who appears to be at the centre of a legal standoff. A grounded thread follows a young girl and her father struggling to recover their money while being failed by the legal system — an emotional core that then gives way to the film’s supernatural side.

A dual role for Suriya

The trailer leans into Suriya’s two-sided performance. The earlier teaser had introduced him as Saravanan, a composed lawyer; here the focus shifts to his more forceful persona, Lord Karuppu — dressed in black and wielding an aruval — delivering justice outside the courtroom, with action sequences aimed squarely at his fans.

A first for Balaji

The film is notable as RJ Balaji’s first time directing a top-tier star, and given his track record of mixing humour with social comment, there’s interest in how he handles a large fantasy canvas. The ensemble includes Yogi Babu, Indrans, Swasika and Natty, with a score by Sai Abhyankkar. Karuppu releases in multiple languages on May 14, 2026.
