Suriya’s Vishwanath and Sons May Shift to August — Post-Production Works Pending

Suriya’s next film after Karuppu may not arrive as soon as trade circles had been expecting. Vishwanath & Sons, directed by Venky Atluri with music by G.V. Prakash Kumar, had been targeting a July worldwide release. According to industry buzz circulating this week, pending post-production work has pushed the team to consider an August release instead. Nothing has been officially confirmed by the production at press time.

The one-month shift, if it holds, is not unusual for a film of this scale — post-production on a pan-Indian production routinely runs longer than initial timelines suggest. July was always an ambitious target for a film that hasn’t had a formal release date announcement.

Vishwanath & Sons Suriya poster

Vishwanath & Sons stars Suriya opposite Mamitha Baiju, the Malayalam actress who has built a quiet but consistent run of strong performances in recent years. The film follows a middle-aged man and a significantly younger woman navigating the complications of an age-gap romance — a departure from the action-heavy territory Suriya has occupied through Kanguva and Karuppu. Venky Atluri, who directed the hits Vaathi and Lucky Bhaskar, brings a lighter romantic register to the material.

G.V. Prakash Kumar’s involvement on music adds a familiar Kollywood anchor to what is shaping up as one of Suriya’s more tonally distinct projects in recent memory.

August would place the film in a crowded but potentially rewarding release window, clear of the Onam rush that dominates Malayalam screens and ahead of the year-end corridor. Whether the team makes that window official in the coming weeks will be worth watching.
