For weeks, speculation had been building: Was Unni Mukundan making a cameo in Antony Varghese’s upcoming film Kattalan? Were the two films — Kattalan (directed by Pepe) and Unni Mukundan’s own Marco — set in a shared universe?
On Wednesday, Unni Mukundan Films (UMF) shut it all down with a concise press release.
“Unni Mukundan is not a part of this project or any other universe,” the statement read, in a direct address to fans and the public. The clarification came after weeks of online chatter, some of which had even linked Kattalan to a broader cinematic universe involving the actor.
UMF’s statement also congratulated Cubes Entertainment, the production house behind both Kattalan (their second film) and Marco (their debut). “We had the privilege of being part of their first film Marco, and we were co-producers on that project. We look back on that journey with pride,” the release noted.

The company urged fans and the media to stop asking questions linking the actor to Kattalan or any shared-world narrative. “We kindly request the audience and the public to refrain from continuing to ask questions related to this film,” the statement added.
The clarification is notable for its directness. Unlike many industry denials that leave room for ambiguity, UMF used plain language: not in this project, not in any universe. No cameo. No connection.
Marco and Kattalan
Marco, directed by Haneef Adeni and starring Unni Mukundan, released earlier this year and performed decently at the Kerala box office. Kattalan, on the other hand, is being positioned as a mass action entertainer featuring Antony Varghese in a rugged, forest-set role. The two films share a production house but, as UMF made clear, nothing else.
For fans hoping for crossovers, the door is firmly closed. UMF’s message was polite but firm: focus on the stories, not the connections that don’t exist.
