Actress Ansiba Hassan has resigned as Joint Secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA). President Shwetha Menon confirmed the move after an Executive Committee meeting in Kochi on May 13, 2026, where the resignation was accepted.
Speaking to the media, Menon said Ansiba had stepped down citing personal reasons and a heavy professional workload, and noted that she had actually submitted her resignation letter back on February 21.
‘A selfless service’
Menon described positions in the association as roles of selfless service, and said Ansiba felt it was unfair to continue on the executive committee when she could not find time to attend meetings or take an active part. “We spoke to Ansiba during today’s meeting,” Menon said. “She asked us to accept her resignation, and the committee passed it unanimously.” Ansiba had been the only candidate to win her seat unopposed in the last election — the same election that made Menon the organisation’s first female President and Kuku Parameswaran the General Secretary.
A turbulent period for AMMA
The timing drew attention given the friction the body has been navigating. An office staff member recently made allegations of workplace harassment against Treasurer Unni Shivapal, which Menon confirmed were discussed at the General Body meeting. As a result, the association placed Shivapal on mandatory leave pending an inquiry. Against that backdrop, the departure of a young, widely accepted office-bearer like Ansiba became a notable talking point in the industry.
Professionally, Ansiba is in a strong phase: with the release of Drishyam 3 on May 21, 2026, her character Anu George returns to the spotlight across South Indian languages — the kind of workload cited as the main reason behind her stepping back from her AMMA duties.
