Ansiba Hassan Resigns from AMMA; President Shwetha Menon Clarifies Reason

· 2 min read · No comments

In a surprising move, actress Ansiba Hassan has resigned from her position as Joint Secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA). AMMA President Shwetha Menon officially confirmed the news following an Executive Committee meeting in Kochi on May 13, 2026. The association has already accepted the resignation.

Addressing the media, Shwetha Menon explained that Ansiba made this choice due to personal reasons and a heavy professional workload. According to the President, Ansiba actually submitted her resignation letter back on February 21.

“A Selfless Service”

Shwetha Menon emphasized that positions within the association are roles of selfless service. She noted that Ansiba felt it was unfair to continue as a member of the executive committee when she could not find the time to attend meetings or actively participate in the organization’s functions.

“We spoke to Ansiba during today’s meeting,” Shwetha added. “She asked us to accept her resignation, and the committee passed it unanimously.” Interestingly, Ansiba was the only candidate who won her seat unopposed in the last election. That same election made Shwetha Menon the organization’s first female President and Kuku Parameswaran the General Secretary.

Internal Turmoil within AMMA

While the official reason for the resignation is “professional commitments,” the timing has raised questions among industry insiders. The association is currently navigating a period of internal friction. Recently, an office staff member leveled serious allegations of workplace harassment against Treasurer Unni Shivapal.

Shwetha Menon confirmed that these allegations were discussed during the General Body meeting. As a result, the association has sent Unni Shivapal on mandatory leave pending further inquiry. Against this backdrop, the exit of a young and widely accepted leader like Ansiba has become a major talking point in the “mass” circles of the Malayalam film industry.

Busy Days Ahead for Ansiba

Professionally, Ansiba is currently witnessing a career high. With the global release of Drishyam 3 scheduled for May 21, 2026, her character, Anju George, is set to be back in the spotlight across all South Indian languages. This surge in professional work is believed to be the primary factor behind her inability to balance her administrative duties at AMMA.

As the association looks to fill the vacancy left by her departure, the focus remains on stabilizing the organization’s image.
