Ranveer Singh Banned: FWICE Issues Non‑Cooperation Directive After ‘Don 3’ Exit

The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has issued a formal non‑cooperation directive against Ranveer Singh, effectively barring industry professionals from working with the actor following his sudden exit from Farhan Akhtar’s Don 3. The decision, announced to the media on Monday after an internal review last week, marks one of the strongest punitive actions the federation has taken against a mainstream star in recent memory.

According to News18, FWICE Chief Advisor Ashoke Pandit called the situation “grave” and criticised the growing trend of actors abandoning projects just before filming begins. Pandit noted that the complaint was routed through the Indian Film and Television Directors’ Association (IFTDA), of which Farhan Akhtar is a registered member. The federation said its final stance was arrived at after “a thorough review of the complaint and a careful assessment of all relevant aspects.”

The Dispute That Led to the Ban

The trouble began when Ranveer — announced as the new Don in a much‑hyped reveal last year — stepped away from the project. Speculation pointed to differences over the script and creative vision. The actor himself has stayed silent. No official statement has appeared on his Instagram or X handles as of press time.

Excel Entertainment, Farhan’s production banner, had reportedly sunk significant pre‑production costs into the film — casting, set design, scheduling. Industry sources place the compensation demand at roughly ₹40 crore, though this could not be confirmed at press time.

FWICE’s directive instructs its member associations — covering technicians, spot boys, set workers, and below‑the‑line crew — to not collaborate with Ranveer Singh on any future project until the matter is resolved. In practice, this can stall a star’s upcoming films, since unionised crews form the backbone of most Hindi film productions.

The Producers Guild of India is reportedly considering mediation between the two parties, according to industry insiders who spoke on condition of anonymity. A resolution before the end of the year is seen as unlikely unless one side blinks.

Ranveer’s Silence and a Career at a Crossroads

Ranveer has had a strong run lately — Dhurandhar performed well, and his recent choices have been widely praised. But a ban of this nature, even if temporary, complicates his next moves. No new projects have been announced since the Don 3 fallout.

Farhan Akhtar, for his part, has not commented publicly since filing the complaint. The director is expected to explore alternative casting but has not named any replacement.

FWICE has issued non‑cooperation directives before — typically against smaller players or producers who breach payment contracts. Naming a frontline star like Ranveer Singh signals an industry‑wide hardening of stance on actors walking out of committed projects. Whether the Producers Guild can broker a settlement — or whether the ban stands for the foreseeable future — will define the next chapter of this dispute.
