Ranveer Singh to Play Lord Shiva: The Immortals of Meluha Trilogy Officially in Development

Following the success of Dhurandhar: The Revenge, Ranveer Singh is moving into mythological fantasy. Reports confirm that the actor has acquired the adaptation rights to Amish Tripathi’s bestselling novel The Immortals of Meluha, which he plans to develop as a large-scale trilogy built around the story of Lord Shiva.

The project brings together Ranveer’s production banner, Maa Kasam Films, and Birla Studios, with Ranveer and Ananya Birla working with the creative team on the characters and world-building. Given how rich the source material is, the makers are reportedly taking their time to get the screenplay right.

An ambitious, long-term plan

Ranveer is said to have made a significant investment to secure the rights, having been drawn to the story for years. The first part is expected to go on floors in 2028, which points to a long development runway and one of the more ambitious mythological projects in Indian cinema. For now, the writing is the priority, with the director and the rest of the cast to be finalised once the screenplay is further along. News of Ranveer playing Shiva has already generated plenty of excitement among fans.

A busy slate first

Before Meluha, Ranveer has a full schedule. He is set to begin filming Pralay, directed by Jay Mehta, in August 2026, and will then join director Aditya Dhar for a film in March 2027 — commitments that will keep him occupied while pre-production on the Shiva trilogy ramps up. With Birla Studios backing it, the project aims to push the bar for VFX and storytelling in India.
