Drishyam 3: Hindi Version Will Be a “Family Thriller” Unlike Malayalam’s “Emotional Drama”

· 2 min read · No comments

Director Abhishek Pathak has confirmed a significant tonal shift for the Hindi version of Drishyam 3. While the Malayalam original focuses on deep family drama, the Ajay Devgn starrer will lean into the “family thriller” genre. Pathak noted that the Hindi adaptation aims for faster pacing and higher suspense to suit pan-India sensibilities. He promised that the first trailer will clearly showcase how different the two cinematic worlds have become.

Currently, the film is in deep post-production. The makers have locked October 2, 2026, for a grand theatrical release. This Gandhi Jayanti slot offers a lucrative long weekend for the franchise. The production team wrapped principal photography in July 2026 after a 70-day schedule. VFX and sound design work are now underway at major studios. Pathak and editor Sandeep Francis are targeting a tight runtime of 2 hours and 20 minutes.

Expanding the Salgaonkar Saga

Ajay Devgn returns as the iconic Vijay Salgaonkar. Tabu will reprise her role as Meera Deshmukh, while Akshaye Khanna reportedly has an expanded track. Unlike the previous installment, Drishyam 3 Hindi will take bigger creative liberties. It will move away from being a scene-by-scene remake. Writer Aamil Keeyan Khan has reworked several beats to enhance the “cat-and-mouse” game with the police.

The budget for this chapter has reportedly touched ₹150 crore. This makes it the most expensive film in the franchise. A significant portion of this budget funded location-heavy chase sequences and a real-time rain climax. Panorama Studios and Viacom18 are betting big on the brand’s recall. They also hope to capitalize on Ajay Devgn’s momentum following Singham Again.

A Parallel Release Strategy

Interestingly, the Malayalam Drishyam 3 remains more introspective. It explores the psychological toll on Georgekutty’s family years after the original crime. This creates a unique situation where both films offer distinct experiences. Fans of the franchise can enjoy a slow-burn drama in Malayalam and a high-octane thriller in Hindi.

Marketing for the Hindi version should begin by August 2026. This chapter aims to redefine how makers adapt regional hits for a Hindi audience. Instead of mere copies, they are now creating “companion pieces.” Trade experts are already circling October 2 on their calendars. The Salgaonkars are back, and the stakes have never been higher.
