Jagadish

With a first-rank M.Com from the University of Kerala, Jagadish worked as a clerk at Canara Bank and then taught commerce as a college lecturer before he acted. Born P. V. Jagadish Kumar in Thiruvananthapuram, he also dubbed short dialogue for other actors, and eventually took a long break from teaching to try films. His first screen role was brief: a cabaret announcer in My Dear Kuttichathan (1984), India's first 3D film. The count now runs past 400 Malayalam films, plus two Hindi ones, alongside work as a screenwriter and television presenter. Supporting roles came in Mutharamkunnu P.O., Nandi Veendum Varika and Vandanam, and he wrote for the screen as well, including the screenplay of Adhipan (1989). Appukuttan in Siddique-Lal's In Harihar Nagar (1990) was the breakthrough. Through the 1990s he led more than 50 films and became one of the industry's bankable stars, with Godfather, Mimics Parade, Welcome to Kodaikanal, Thiruthalvaadi, Kunukkitta Kozhi, Sthreedhanam, Simhavalan Menon, Hitler and Gramapanchayath all from that stretch. He has played both comic and character roles. In 2016 he contested the Pathanapuram Assembly seat as a Congress candidate and lost. He appeared as himself in Rekhachithram (2025), and he has NP 51 and Padayaatra coming up.
