After a theatrical run that took it past ₹300 crore worldwide, RJ Balaji’s action drama Karuppu is heading to streaming. Amazon Prime Video has confirmed that the Suriya film will start streaming this Friday, June 12, 2026, in the original Tamil as well as its Telugu dubbed version, Veera Bhadrudu.
Folklore, courtroom drama and a big ensemble
The film reunites Suriya with Trisha after nearly two decades, and their pairing anchors a story that blends courtroom tension with rural folklore built around Karuppusamy worship. Director RJ Balaji also plays a key role in the film himself.
The supporting cast brings together a number of well-known South Indian character actors, including Indrans, Anagha Maya Ravi, Swasika, Sshivada and Natarajan Subramaniam, with Yogi Babu providing the comedy to balance the film’s heavier moments.
A bumpy release that turned into a hit
The streaming launch caps a release that had a rocky start. On May 15, early morning shows were cancelled across Tamil Nadu because of financial disputes between distributors and the production house. Dream Warrior Pictures cleared the issues within hours, and regular matinee and evening shows went ahead to a strong response.
Once it settled, the film did well, taking ₹14.40 crore net in India on its first day and holding up over the following weeks. Much of that momentum was credited to the soundtrack and score by young composer Sai Abhyankkar. With Pen Studios holding the Hindi dubbing rights, the film now reaches Prime Video subscribers worldwide this Friday.
