Ahead of her theatrical comeback, Samantha Ruth Prabhu has shared an interesting bit of backstory about her upcoming action family comedy Maa Inti Bangaram. During a social media session, she revealed that she wasn’t the original choice for the lead — the role was first written with Sai Pallavi in mind, before scheduling conflicts changed the film’s course.
Samantha said the concept fit the goals of her banner, Tralala Moving Pictures, which she co-founded with her husband Raj Nidimoru and Himank Reddy Duvvuru to back female-led stories. A self-described admirer of Sai Pallavi, she said the makers had wanted her to headline the film, but Sai Pallavi was tied up with a full slate — chiefly Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana — and didn’t have the dates.
Reworking the script
Once Samantha came on board, director B.V. Nandini Reddy and the writing team reshaped parts of the story and her character to suit her. The result, Samantha said, is a layered protagonist who blends domestic comedy with stylised action.
In the film she plays a soft-spoken rural housewife who turns out to have a serious talent for close combat. The trailer, which shows her handling heavy action and weapons while in traditional sarees, leaned into that contrast and drew strong attention online. Samantha said she believes the mix of action and emotion will connect with family audiences.
A warm response from Sai Pallavi
Sai Pallavi picked up on the post and replied warmly, saying the film was always meant to reach Samantha and sending her best wishes to the actress and Nandini Reddy. She also hinted at a possible future collaboration under the Tralala banner, which left fans hopeful about an on-screen pairing.
Maa Inti Bangaram is Samantha’s second film with Nandini Reddy after their 2019 hit Oh! Baby. It is written by Raj Nidimoru, Vasanth Maringanti and Sita Menon, with a supporting cast that includes Diganth Manchale, Gulshan Devaiah, Sreemukhi, Gautami Tadimalla and Anand. Originally set for mid-May, it was moved to avoid the IPL window and is now releasing worldwide on June 19, 2026.
The soundtrack, composed by Santhosh Narayanan, has already gained traction on streaming. Om Prakash ISC handles the cinematography, Dharmendra Kakarala the editing, and Lee Whittaker and Aejaz Gulab the stunt work, as the film lines up a wide release across the Telugu states and overseas.
