2018 (2023)
2018 is a Malayalam disaster drama written and directed by Jude Anthany Joseph, drawn from the floods that struck Kerala in 2018. The ensemble story is set in the village of Aruvikulam in the days before the waters rise. Anoop (Tovino Thomas), a former military man haunted by the deaths of his comrades, works at a shop and grows close to Manju (Tanvi Ram), a schoolteacher. Elsewhere, a truck driver from Tamil Nadu and a television reporter covering a water crisis find themselves heading to Kerala, while a disaster-management officer deals with fishermen who have gone missing after a storm. Kunchacko Boban plays Shaji Punnoose, with Asif Ali, Vineeth Sreenivasan, Sshivada, Lal, Kalaiyarasan, Narain, Aju Varghese, Hari Krishnan and Gauthami Nair in the cast. Anto Joseph produces under Kavya Film Company and PK Prime Production. Developed under the tentative title 2403 Ft.: The Story Of Unexpected Heroes, the film staged its main flood sequences on a 22-acre set at Maravanthuruthu near Vaikom, with other filming in places including Thrissur, Ernakulam, Alappuzha, Kottayam and Idukki. It released in theatres in May 2023 and streams on SonyLIV.
