Steve & Polly, Vipin Atley's new Malayalam film, started shooting in Kochi on Friday, October 16. Sajid Yahiya, who is better known as the director of IDI: Inspector Dawood Ibrahim and Mohanlal, plays the lead for the first time.

Steve & Polly goes on floors
Sajid shared photos from the set on Instagram in a joint post with Vipin, calling the film a "new chapter in my film career". The post went up on the afternoon of October 16 and sits on both their profiles. The project had been launched with a pooja in Kochi on September 28, and the team had then planned to start filming in the first week of October.

The film is set in Kochi's Anglo-Indian community, and the makers describe the film as an entertainer that mixes humour with violence. Sajid plays Steve, while newcomer Sidharth Sathya plays Polly. After Kochi, the shoot moves to Pondicherry, Alappuzha and Munnar.
From the director's chair to the lead role
Sajid made his name behind the camera. He directed IDI: Inspector Dawood Ibrahim (2016) with Jayasurya, then Mohanlal (2018), in which Manju Warrier played a woman who has idolised the actor since childhood, and later Qalb (2024). As an actor, he has so far been seen only in supporting parts, in films such as Bangalore Days, Double Barrel and Darvinte Parinamam.
That is what sets Steve & Polly apart for him. He is not directing this time, and the title character is his. The film also puts him back with a director he knows, since Steve & Polly is his second film with Vipin after Antappante Athbudha Pravarthikal, which released on July 17 this year.
Vipin, for his part, began with the comedy Homely Meals (2014), followed by Ben (2015) and the Tamil film Pombalai Orumai. With Steve & Polly going on floors in October, he is back on a set three months after his last film reached theatres.

Apart from Sajid and Sidharth, the film features Sudheer Sukumaran, Jude Anthany Joseph, Rajesh Sharma and Nia Luke. Joseph Daniel handles the cinematography and AR Jibeesh is the editor.
