Why it matters
Re-releases have become a steady trend in Malayalam cinema. They let younger viewers see older hits on a big screen for the first time.
Thenmavin Kombathu is a strong fit. Its look and music were central to its success.
It won National Film Awards for KV Anand's cinematography and Sabu Cyril's production design. It also won five Kerala State Film Awards.
About the film
Set in a village, the film mixes romance and comedy. Mohanlal plays Manikyan and Shobana plays Karthumbi.
Nedumudi Venu plays Sreekrishnan Thampuran.
The songs by Berny-Ignatius, with lyrics by Gireesh Puthenchery, remain popular. A theatre screen and new sound mix suit them well.
