Following the Kerala Assembly election results, veteran director Alleppey Ashraf described Ramesh Pisharody’s win as a proud moment for the Malayalam film industry. While several other film personalities lost, Ashraf said Pisharody’s success stood out, crediting his clean image and public appeal.
Ashraf noted that the previous assembly had included two prominent actors who are absent this time, alluding to the controversies that had at times embarrassed the film community. In his view, Pisharody — who has kept an unblemished reputation through his years in the industry — represents a fresh start.
A future in public life
The director predicted a bright path ahead for the actor-turned-politician if he stays committed, pointing to the growth Pisharody has shown over the years and the sincerity he brings to his work. The public, Ashraf added, will expect him to deliver on his promise of being a dedicated representative.
Several other celebrities — including Sudheer Karamana, Anjali Nair, Vivek Gopan and Akhil Marar — contested but did not win, which made Pisharody’s victory all the more notable. Ashraf felt it reflected his grounded nature and consistent effort rather than luck alone. With Pisharody now setting aside his acting and directing commitments to take up his new role, the assembly gains a familiar face from the screen.
