As Vijay settles into his new role in politics, his energy and fitness at 51 have become a talking point. He has long favoured a lean, agile look over heavy muscle, and according to his trainer Naresh Kumar, his day starts early — around 5:30 AM — with a session of moderate cardio.
Cardio, strength and movement
That morning cardio, lasting anywhere from 10 to 40 minutes, helps his stamina for long shoots and rallies. He follows it with moderate strength work focused on functional fitness rather than heavy lifting, which keeps him flexible for his dance sequences and helps his posture. When he can’t get to a gym, he simply walks more or stretches, and he’s a keen cyclist — famously cycling to the polling booth in 2021.
Simple food, calm mind
On diet, Vijay keeps things simple, leaning on home-cooked Indian meals — idli, eggs, fruit and coconut water — while enjoying favourites like mutton biryani and sweets in moderation and cutting out oily and fried food. He tends to eat dinner early and prioritises sleep so his body recovers well.
Perhaps the most consistent theme, though, is his calm temperament; he is known for keeping stress in check, something he treats as just as important as the physical side. As with any routine, individual needs differ, but his emphasis on consistency and balance is the throughline.
