Tamil Nadu is heading into one of its biggest political shifts in decades. After a closely watched election, TVK chief Vijay is set to take oath as the next Chief Minister on May 7, following a result in which his party won 108 seats — a tally that ended the long-standing dominance of the state’s two main Dravidian parties.
According to ANI, citing sources, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam’s (TVK) win set the transition in motion. While the capital buzzed with talk of the new cabinet, much of the attention was on the scale of the swearing-in, with Vijay — known for his large grassroots following — opting for a public event rather than a low-key office ceremony.

The ceremony was expected to take place at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai. The venue made sense logistically, allowing a large gathering of supporters in a controlled setting away from the summer heat. City officials and security agencies began site inspections to manage the thousands of party workers expected to travel in from the southern districts.
The TVK’s performance surprised the political establishment, with Vijay’s “fresh choice” campaign clearly connecting with younger and undecided voters. Ahead of the deadline, the party was reported to be in talks with smaller allies to secure a stable majority — setting up the central question of how the actor’s popularity would translate into governance.
