Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi has questioned the sudden restriction of a collaborative reel he posted with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay. The video captured a friendly moment between the two leaders but reportedly ran into blocking under India’s Information Technology Rules.
Gandhi was openly critical of the move, sharing screenshots of the restricted content and asking, “What exactly is so threatening about it?” The question followed reports that his follow-up stories had also been taken down, adding tension between the new state coalition and central authorities during Vijay’s first week in office.
A symbol of the TVK–Congress alliance
The clip — featuring a handshake and a selfie — had been seen as a visual representation of the TVK–Congress alliance. Supporters described the block as an unusual step aimed at dampening the coalition’s momentum, and the restriction appears to have only increased interest in the footage, with copies circulating on other platforms.
Analysts noted that such blocks can backfire, drawing more attention to the very content they target. With the images continuing to circulate despite the restriction, the episode added another layer to the already complex relationship between the state and the centre as the new government settled in.
