Spoiler warning: this story reveals a cameo in Jailer 2. Stop here if you have not seen the film.
Hrithik Roshan appears in Jailer 2 as Roddy, a man who turns up to help Rajinikanth's Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, reports suggest. The cameo comes 40 years after the two actors first shared the screen, when Hrithik was a child.
Roddy, and a debt from 20 years ago
In the film, Roddy says Muthu once helped him 20 years ago, as both outlets reported. He later walks beside Rajinikanth and does a sunglasses flip, a nod to one of the star's best-known moves. We are keeping the plot details out of this story.
The role is a short one. Hrithik is one of several guest stars in a film that also brings back Mohanlal as Mathew, alongside Shiva Rajkumar and Jackie Shroff.
Bhagwaan Dada, 1986
The history goes back to Bhagwaan Dada, a Hindi film released on April 25, 1986. Rajinikanth played the title role, a gangster who adopts an orphaned boy, Govinda. Hrithik, born on January 10, 1974, was 12 when he played that boy. His father Rakesh Roshan produced the film and acted in it. Hrithik's grandfather J. Om Prakash directed it.
So the boy who played Rajinikanth's foster son now plays a man who owes Rajinikanth's character a favour.
What Hrithik has said about Rajinikanth
Hrithik has spoken about that early film often. In August 2025, when Rajinikanth completed 50 years in cinema, he posted a note on X.

At the trailer launch of The Roshans in January 2025, he recalled that "Rajni sir used to take the blame" whenever he messed up a shot as a child.
