Mamitha Baiju was the chief guest at an Onam celebration in Melbourne, Australia. The Clyde Malayalee association organised the event.

On stage, the host asked her a simple question. Which of her characters is closest to her real self?

Ashley first, then Reenu

The host listed several of her roles before asking. Mamitha paused and named Ashley, her character in Bethlehem Kudumba Unit.

As the audience cheered, she added Reenu from Premalu. A clip of the answer has been shared widely.

The celebration had been planned for September and was moved to October.

The host had listed roles from films including Super Sharanya, Premalu, Dude and Bethlehem Kudumba Unit. That spread covers both her Malayalam and Tamil work.

An MP's selfie

Australian MP Brad Battin also attended as a guest. He posted a selfie with Mamitha on Instagram. He wrote that it was an honour to share the stage with her.

Why the answer stands out

Premalu released in 2024, and Reenu remains the role many viewers link her to.

Ashley is far more recent. Bethlehem Kudumba Unit was an Onam release this year.

Naming Ashley first suggests the new role sits closer to her now. It also shows how quickly that film has travelled with audiences abroad.

Onam events abroad often invite Malayalam stars as chief guests. For many families there, it is a rare chance to meet an actor in person.
