Sanju Samson books a whole screen for Jailer 2 with Tamil-speaking teammates

The Malayali cricketer watched Rajinikanth's film, which has Mohanlal and Suraj Venjaramoodu in the cast, a day late because of a Delhi event.

Sanju Samson booked an entire screen this week to watch Jailer 2, and he did not go alone. The India wicketkeeper-batter brought his wife and friends, and invited the Tamil-speaking members of the Indian team and support staff. "Everyone in the team and the support staff who knows Tamil is coming," he told ANI.

Samson said he loves watching Rajinikanth's films and tries to catch as many of them as he can. He was a day late for this one, he explained, because of an event in Delhi, so he made up for it by booking the whole screen.

A Rajini fan from Kerala

His fandom is not new.Rajinikanth earlier.

Samson met Rajinikanth at the actor's Chennai home in March 2023. He said then that he had been a fan since he was seven, and that the meeting fulfilled a promise he had made to himself 21 years earlier.

Samson's 2024 run

On the field, Samson had the best year of his T20I career in 2024. He scored his maiden T20I century, 111 against Bangladesh, and followed it with back-to-back hundreds against South Africa, 107 and 109 not out. That made him the first Indian to score centuries in consecutive T20I innings.

He was named Rajasthan Royals captain for the 2021 IPL season, taking over from Steve Smith.

Jailer 2 in brief

Jailer 2 opened in theatres on October 15, 2026. Nelson Dilipkumar directs, Sun Pictures produces and Anirudh Ravichander composes the music. Rajinikanth returns as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, the retired jailer he first played in Jailer (2023).

The first film released on August 10, 2023, and began streaming on Prime Video from September 7 that year.

Kerala on both sides of the screen

This time the Kerala link runs both ways. A Malayali cricketer bought out the show, and the film on screen has a strong Malayali presence of its own. Mohanlal returns as Mathew, and Suraj Venjaramoodu plays the villain Dileep, as covered in our release-day story. Sree Gokulam Movies released the film in Kerala.
