GV Prakash Kumar

GV Prakash Kumar's start in film music came as a child vocalist on the Gentleman (1993) soundtrack. Music runs in the family: his mother is playback singer A. R. Reihana, which makes A. R. Rahman his maternal uncle. Born in Chennai on 13 June 1987, the composer, actor and producer has built his career in Tamil cinema. He sang for Harris Jayaraj on Anniyan and Unnale Unnale before composing his first film, Vasanthabalan's Veyil (2006). Aayirathil Oruvan, Madrasapattinam, Aadukalam and Mayakkam Enna won his scores wide notice in the years after, and he composed the background score of the Hindi film Gangs of Wasseypur. Darling (2015) did two things at once. It was a musical success, and it was his first film as an actor. Vijay's Theri (2016) was his 50th film as composer, and Asuran (2019) and Soorarai Pottru (2020) came later. He holds three National Film Awards, four Filmfare Awards and three SIIMA Awards. This year he composed the music and background score of the Tamil film Mandaadi and played the lead in Immortal (both 2026). Two Telugu films carry his music next, Aakasamlo Oka Tara and January 12 Vidudala.
