The first-look poster of the upcoming Malayalam film Prem Patta has drawn attention online, released with the teasing caption “Waiting for Alia.” The poster keeps the female lead’s face hidden, building a bit of mystery around the project, which is pitched as a youthful, digital-age romance.
The film is directed by Aamir Pallikkal, known for Ayisha and ED, and is set against the backdrop of a National Service Scheme (NSS) camp — a setting that lends itself to stories of friendship and campus life. Lijeesh Kumar wrote the screenplay, with Joemon Jyothir in the central role.
Actors and influencers together
Prem Patta brings together established Malayalam actors and popular social media creators, with an ensemble that includes Saiju Kurup, Anusree, Siddique, Rajesh Madhavan, Junaiz V.P., Saafboi, Nayana Elsa and Ashwin Vijayan — part of a growing trend of content creators moving into mainstream films and helping bridge traditional and younger audiences.
The team behind it
Music is central to a campus film, and the makers brought in Ankit Menon, fresh off his hits for Premalu, with lyrics co-written by Suhail M. Koya and Muthu. Ranadive handles the cinematography and Akash Joseph Varghese the editing, with a 45-day shoot planned across Kozhikode and Thrissur. Central Pictures will release the film. For now, the “Waiting for Alia” campaign has fans speculating about who will play the lead.
