Kalki 2 Aiming for December 2027 Release: Shooting to Wrap by April

After the success of Kalki 2898 AD, the makers of the sci-fi franchise are pushing ahead with the sequel. Directed by Nag Ashwin, the production is progressing steadily, and according to industry sources, the team is targeting a December 2027 release for Kalki 2.

The sequel will pick up where the first film left off, with the scale increasing to match the growing conflict between the heroes and Supreme Yaskin. Much of the principal photography is expected to be wrapped by April next year.

Cast and timeline

The core cast, including Prabhas and Kamal Haasan, are already filming their portions, and Sai Pallavi has joined the franchise. Sources say the major actors should complete their schedules by April, which would leave the team roughly 20 months for post-production and visual effects. “The makers are planning an extensive post-production process, given the heavy visual effects required,” an insider noted — a long runway the increasingly complex world-building calls for.

The Yaskin face-off

The plot is being kept under wraps, but the sequel is expected to go deeper into Indian mythology and the emotional threads of the first film. A highlight is set to be the confrontation between Amitabh Bachchan’s Ashwatthama and Kamal Haasan’s Supreme Yaskin — a reunion for the two actors decades after their 1985 film Geraftaar. Large-scale action sequences featuring Prabhas are also being planned as the franchise builds toward its 2027 target.
