Michael Biopic Box Office Collections: King of Pop Biopic Crosses ₹50 Crore in India

The Michael Jackson biopic Michael has crossed ₹50 crore in India in just 12 days, a notable result for a Hollywood musical — a genre that has historically struggled to draw big crowds in the country.

Starring Jaafar Jackson as the King of Pop, the film held up well in its second week, grossing around ₹13.50 crore over the second weekend, a drop of only about 25 percent from its opening. The steady run continued into the weekdays, with another ₹2 crore added on Tuesday. Trade watchers now expect it to head toward a lifetime of about ₹75 crore in India.

A record for musical biopics

The film has cleared the bar set by earlier musical releases here, well ahead of Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour (₹13 crore) and Bohemian Rhapsody (₹7 crore back in 2018). Jaafar Jackson’s performance appears to have connected with Indian audiences, and the film is the third notable Hollywood hit in India in 2026, after Project Hail Mary and The Mummy — none of which fit the usual superhero or franchise mould, suggesting a shift toward more varied storytelling.

A strong year for Hollywood in India

With The Devil Wears Prada 2 also performing well, 2026 is shaping up as a good year for international films in India. Michael‘s run points to a real appetite for well-made biopics, and if it holds through a third weekend, it could set a high mark for the musical genre in the market.
