Drishyam (2013)
Drishyam is a 2013 Malayalam crime thriller written and directed by Jeethu Joseph, and the first film in the Drishyam franchise. Georgekutty (Mohanlal) is a cable TV operator who lives with his wife Rani (Meena) and daughters Anju (Ansiba Hassan) and Anu (Esther Anil). Their life is upended when Varun Prabhakar (Roshan Basheer) secretly records Anju and uses the footage to blackmail her. Anju kills him in self-defence, the family buries the body, and Georgekutty constructs a false alibi to shield them from the police investigation led by Varun's mother, IG Geetha Prabhakar (Asha Sarath). Sidhique plays her husband Prabhakar and Kalabhavan Shajohn plays Constable Sahadevan, with Neeraj Madhav, Irshad and Kunchan also in the cast. Antony Perumbavoor produced the film under Aashirvad Cinemas, with Sujith Vaassudev as cinematographer and Ayub Khan as editor, and it was shot in Thodupuzha. The film has been said to draw on Keigo Higashino's novel The Devotion of Suspect X, which the director denies. Drishyam released in December 2013 and was remade in Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Sinhala and Mandarin.
